Rocket Turbine Engine (RTE) Abstract:

The Rocket Turbine Engine (RTE) was developed to significantly improve thermal efficiency while simplifying the mechanical design compared to traditional gas turbine engines. While single-cycle gas turbines typically achieve energy conversion efficiencies between 20% and 35%, the RTE is expected to reach thermal efficiencies of 60% or higher. The RTE can be coupled with an off-the-shelf (OTS) Axial Flux Motor (AFM), such as the YASA P400R AFM, to create a compact generator system (RTE-AFM-100kW GEN) with the following characteristics:
  • Constant Power Output: 100 kW (peak power: 160 kW)
  • High Efficiency: Less fuel consumption and reduced pollution
  • Compact Design: Requires only ¼ of the space compared to the current model
  • Quiet Operation
  • Low Maintenance Requirements: No water-cooling system or oil changes needed
  • Cost-Effective Design: Priced at 1/2 to 1/3 of the current model's price
  • Fuel: Gasoline, Compressed Natural Gas, Alcohol, or Hydrogen
Since RTE-AFM generators are modular and expandable, multiple single-unit RTE-AFM generators can be combined to form a large electric generator (e.g., a 12 MW generator to fit into a 40 ft cargo container, comparable to a wind turbine). Thirty RTE-AFM-12MW units can be assembled to create a 360 MW power plant. All exhaust gases (composed of CO2 and water vapor) produced by the RTE-AFM 360 MW power plant are collected and directed to closed greenhouses where vegetables are cultivated. Through the natural process of photosynthesis, the carbon component of CO2 is absorbed by the green leaves of the vegetables, and oxygen is released. Numerous scientific laboratory tests indicate that higher CO2 levels can accelerate vegetable growth by as much as 75%. If the greenhouse is equipped with LED lights, the vegetables will grow 2-3 times faster. This approach not only achieves a "Zero-Carbon Low-Cost Power Plant" but also facilitates the harvesting of free oxygen and vegetables. As to how to reduce the electricity cost, because it only took 1% of real estate, no massive water-cooling system required, no transmission lines required, no step-up/step-down transformers required , (contribute to 10% loss), high-efficient low pollution, no Power-Grid required, over  100% availability. All these factors can reduce the electricity cost significantly.
In addition to electric generator and power plant applications, the RTE can be utilized for a wide variety of commercial applications as the following:
(1): EV car range extender: eliminates the time-consuming process of charging an EV, reduce battery by half.
(2): EV truck range extender: saves truck drivers thousands of dollars each month;
(3): Mobile cordless EV charging kiosk; (multiple cars charging at the same time, place anywhere, gas station, parking lot)
(4): Hybrid automobile engines, from passenger cars to 18-wheeler trucks;
(5); Simple tricycle, automobile engine, (direct drive the wheel, reversable)
(6): Propeller-based aircraft engines, including helicopters;
(7): Propeller-based boat and ship engines (especially for large ship, similar to Azipod)
